Question 519
Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. About two months ago, one of the brothers invited me to investigate the Call of Imam Ahmed Alhasan al-Yamani-may my spirit be his ransom-and encouraged me by saying that the matter deserves to be read and, moreover, is a religious duty upon all believers. Recently, I have been drawn to reading, scrutinizing, and reflecting, but I have not reached anything. The reason is that all the evidence, proofs, and narrations are things we have read about and heard many times. Nothing new has been brought except the burial place of our guardian Fatima al-Zahra (a). Yet how credible is this statement? I, for example, can say that her grave is beside the grave of the Messenger’s uncle Hamza (a). What establishes that? We want something tangible and sensory-audible and visible. We do not want words alone; that is not enough. Then, at the very least, why is there not even one picture of the Imam’s person? What prevents that? Even if we accept that he is being pursued, a picture might reveal things that words do not. Many Muslims believed in the Messenger merely upon seeing him. Show us a picture of him-may Allah grant you success. Does he bear a resemblance to the pure progeny? Does he have the Muhammadan light? I do not think my request is great or a miracle, although I know that many have made this request without result. May you remain well. Sender: Razzaq al-Jarush - Sweden
Supporters Response:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and his family, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. My dear brother, you say that the narrations with which Sayyed Ahmed Alhasan argued exist and that you have read them. Do you want Sayyed Ahmed Alhasan (a), for example, to bring narrations that do not exist? If people do not believe the existing narrations, how will they believe Sayyed Ahmed Alhasan if, for example, he tells them, ‘The Messenger of Allah (s) said such-and-such,’ ‘Imam Ali (a) said such-and-such,’ or ‘Imam al-Mahdi (a) said such-and-such’? Or will they tell him, ‘We do not believe your Call in the first place, so how can we accept your words when they do not exist in the sources? How do you establish that they are sound?’ My brother, did the Messenger Muhammad (s) not argue against the Jews and Christians on the basis that he existed, was mentioned, and was foretold in their books? The Exalted said: ‘Those who follow the Messenger, the unlettered Prophet, whom they find written with them in the Torah and the Gospel … So those who believe in him, honor him, support him, and follow the light sent down with him-it is they who are the successful’ ([196]). I see that you have reversed the matter, and I ask you to pay attention to this. One of the strongest proofs is for a person to argue against another by what they themselves accept and by what exists and is established with them. If you insist on hearing or reading something new, The Allegories is filled with new material. Have you contemplated it or not? Here also is the sovereignty of Allah, Exalted is He, to which Sayyed Ahmed Alhasan calls and which the jurists of the end times abandoned, accepting the end-of-history project-America’s democracy. As for the grave of the truthful Fatima al-Zahra (a), do you want, for example, to exhume her grave so that you will believe? Suppose it were not Sayyed Ahmed Alhasan who disclosed the location of her grave but Imam al-Mahdi (a) himself. Would you require him, in order to believe him, to exhume the grave for you? We seek refuge in Allah. Sayyed Ahmed Alhasan (a) disclosed the grave of al-Zahra (a) and said that whoever wishes to ascertain it should go to the grave and ask Allah there for the fulfillment of his needs, and then see Allah’s answer, Allah willing. Or do you deal only with your five senses, such that everything beyond them has no existence? As for a picture, faith does not depend upon it. You are charged with believing in Imam al-Mahdi (a) even though you have never seen him. Rather, that was established for you through the narrations that you now read and that, as you say, are not new. Suppose Imam al-Mahdi (a) appeared now and argued against you using those narrations. Would you tell him, ‘We have read these narrations, and they are not new’? My brother, Allah, Exalted is He, said: ‘… Whoever for whom Allah does not make a light has no light’ ([197]). Sayyed Ahmed Alhasan says: seek guidance from Allah, Exalted is He, not from Ahmed Alhasan. Finally, I ask Allah to grant you success in knowing the truth, supporting it, and remaining steadfast upon it. Indeed, He is Hearing and Responsive.
