Question 520
Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. O Allah, send abundant prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. To proceed: peace be upon you, noble and respected Sayyed, my guardian and the guardian of every Muslim man and woman, Sayyed Ahmed Alhasan. My guardian, I have a question concerning the divine wrath that is now upon the people in Iraq. Is this wrath upon Iraq alone? My guardian, I see that most events are occurring in Iraq, while I see the remaining countries living in comfort, as though they were not Muslims like us. My question is: why are all these calamities upon Iraq alone? Is it an effect of Imam al-Husayn’s (a) supplication, or what? I ask you to answer my question. I thank you very much, apologize to you, and ask your pardon if I have fallen short in a word. Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. Sender: Nura al-Suwayfi - Canada
Supporters Response:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and his family, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. Allah, Exalted is He, said: ‘… We do not punish until We send a messenger’ ([198]). Imam al-Mahdi (a) sent his successor and messenger in Iraq, but they denied him, mocked him, drove him away, declared his blood lawful, demolished his husayniyyas, killed his supporters, and mutilated their pure bodies in the worst manner. The remainder are either driven from their families and dependents or imprisoned and subjected to the torture of the hypocrites, who have surpassed the accursed Saddam in their tyranny and wrongdoing. You now see that all the people in Iraq rejoiced over what the government of al-Zawra did to the Supporters of Imam al-Mahdi (a); indeed, some congratulate one another on the occasion of the killing of the Supporters of Imam al-Mahdi (a). Is this not sufficient for divine punishment to begin in Iraq and upon its people, who supported neither a prophet nor an Imam? Rather, the graves of the guardians multiplied in Iraq because every time an Imam came to them, they forsook and killed him, and so on. As for the rest of the world, you now see the disasters, diseases, financial crisis, wars, and turmoil that afflict them. What is coming is greater and more severe, and this is merely the prelude to the punishment. The greater punishment has not yet descended upon Iraq; this is the lesser punishment, as Allah, Exalted is He, said: ‘We will surely make them taste the lesser punishment before the greater punishment, that perhaps they may return’ ([199]). We seek refuge in Allah from His wrath and ask Him to pardon our sins and shortcomings. May Allah grant you success in every good. I ask you to pray for me.
