Question 613

Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. To proceed: I have been following the supporters’ room for a short time. I read the Imam’s writings on the website and listened to recordings in his name, and I initially felt comfortable with what he calls to. But my problem is that I am Sunni and do not believe in the Imamate in the first place. Despite that, I remain in the room regularly, in the hope that Allah may reveal the truth to me if I am not upon it. One of the brothers advised me to seek a sign from Allah when he heard of my uncertainty concerning the Call. I performed the full ritual bath, prayed, and asked Allah to guide me to the truth. I went to sleep while listening to a recording of Imam Ahmed Alhasan. I dreamed that I was sleeping beneath a tree, and the tree was beside a dirt road extending in both directions. An old man came, whose beard nearly reached the ground. His clothes were tattered, and he seemed to have come from the past, leaning upon a staff taller than himself. He sat beside me and gently whispered in my ear, saying, ‘This is not a suitable time to sleep. Wake up, Ibrahim.’ I awoke in fright and looked at him, which increased my fear. He said, ‘Do not be frightened and do not ask questions. Listen to an old man whose age equals the age of many people, who has spoken with only a few and is speaking with you now. So listen, preserve, and understand, for I will not repeat what I say. Head east. You will find a small, poor village whose people are simple and good. Inform them that the sun is a very small window from Hell that has been opened upon the earth, and that they must depart. Do not insist upon anyone who refuses to depart with you. Continue traveling east, you and those with you. You will find another village whose people are more prosperous and more harsh. Beware of them and do not insist that they depart with you. Continue traveling east, you and those who followed you from the second village, until you reach the third village, and do as you did before. Every village you find, you will find its people more prosperous and more harsh, until you reach the seventh village. Go around it without its people seeing you. Behind the village, you will find a tree like this tree shading us now, O Ibrahim. Its leaves are greener, its appearance is fresher, its fruit more abundant, and its shade extends before it and shades the rest of the earth. We may meet beneath that tree when you arrive, and we may not meet. Sleep beneath that tree as you are sleeping now. At sunrise, walk in the shade of that tree, for your sun will not set until Allah permits otherwise.’ Then he extended his hand, picked a leaf from the tree, and extended it toward me. I extended my hand and took it from him. A single letter was written upon it, which I saw clearly: the letter Nun!! I said, ‘What should I do with it?’ He said, ‘I told you not to ask questions.’ He left me and departed. I tried to follow him, but he disappeared. It was a beautiful and comforting dream, although I understood nothing. I asked one of the Imam’s supporter brothers, and he advised me to write to you. I ask Allah, if you are upon the truth, to guide me to it. I hope for a swift reply. Know that I have not told the letter to anyone except you. May Allah protect you. Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. I ask Allah to grant you success and a good end. In this vision, the tree beneath which you were sleeping refers to what you were listening to before you slept. That is, it is the blessed tree in the Quran, the tree of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad (a). The person you saw is pious and an ally among Allah’s allies, because in a vision the beard refers to religion. His command that you awaken from sleep means that you should support the truth and awaken from heedlessness toward this world and preoccupation with it and its people. As for the work to which he directed you, Allah willing, you will be granted success in it through determination and earnestness after awakening from heedlessness. The leaf bearing the letter Nun refers to the Exalted’s words: ‘Nun. By the pen and what they inscribe: by your Lord’s grace, you are not mad’ ([88]). Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. Ahmed Alhasan Sha‘ban of Goodness and Blessing, 1431 AH
