Question 641

Does the Messenger-prayers and peace be upon him-know the unseen? Sender: Abu Abd al-Aziz - Kuwait

Supporters Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send abundant prayers upon Muhammad and his family, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. It is stated in Sahih Muslim, vol. 8, p. 172: ‘Yaqub ibn Ibrahim al-Dawraqi and Hajjaj ibn al-Shair both narrated to me from Abu Asim. Hajjaj said: Abu Asim narrated to us; Azrah ibn Thabit informed us; Alba ibn Ahmar informed us; Abu Zayd-meaning Amr ibn Akhtab-narrated to me, saying: The Messenger of Allah-may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him-led us in the dawn prayer and ascended the pulpit. He addressed us until noon came, then descended and prayed. He then ascended the pulpit and addressed us until the afternoon came, then descended and prayed. He then ascended the pulpit and addressed us until the sun set. He informed us of what had been and what was yet to be. The one among us who knew the most was the one who remembered the most.’ End. ‘Uthman ibn Abi Shaybah and Ishaq ibn Ibrahim narrated to us. Uthman said, “He narrated to us,” while Ishaq said, “Jarir informed us,” from al-Amash, from Shaqiq, from Hudhayfah, who said: The Messenger of Allah-may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him-stood among us in a gathering and omitted nothing that would occur from that gathering until the Hour except that he related it. Whoever remembered it remembered it, and whoever forgot it forgot it. These companions of mine knew it. Some matter among it would occur which I had forgotten; then I would see it and remember it, just as a man remembers another man’s face when he is absent from him and then recognizes him when he sees him.’ But this does not depart from the words of the Exalted: ‘Knower of the unseen, He does not disclose His unseen to anyone, except a messenger whom He has approved’ ([98]). Thus, his knowledge of the unseen comes through Allah disclosing it to him. The Scientific Committee / Supporters of Imam al-Mahdi Abu Muhammad al-Ansari 15 Shawwal 1431 AH
