Question 723
Peace be upon you, my master Imam Ahmed Alhasan (a). It is wonderful that you are here. I always wondered whether a God-conscious person existed upon the face of the earth in such an age. What is even more wonderful is that, in 1999, I was walking by the river after crying and speaking with Allah about how terrible this life was and that, if it were like this, I wished not to be in it. There was then a rainbow near the river. When I returned, I decided to go to another mosque to learn more, and I saw a very red bird, as though Allah were there speaking to me and showing me signs. It was amazing, because I remained firm in my belief that the countries had become very wicked and that Islam was not wrong. I used to supplicate that there be something capable of helping bring this world out of these calamities. My dream truly came true: to know about religion that which leaves me with no doubt that it is true, and also to realize that Allah knows everything, has the best plans, and that we can do righteous deeds by worshipping Allah. Glory be to Allah, praise be to Allah, there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest. Praise be to Allah for His blessings. I wanted to emigrate, but I have now received a letter from my city requiring me to serve on a court jury. I have never voted or helped the United States in this way in my life, praise be to Allah. I do not know whether they will accept my refusal of their request this time. Is it not forbidden in Islam to sit with disbelievers who do not support human rights, and for a person to judge whether someone is guilty or not guilty, especially since they use the term ‘beyond a reasonable doubt’? They are also known to use methods that result in great injustice of every kind. Allah is Generous. In Allah’s protection. Sender: Malisla - United States of America
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send abundant prayers and peace upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis. You may participate in the jury if you are compelled to participate. As for a person who is not a believer, from whatever country he may be, it is permissible to sit with him, make the truth known to him, and advise him. We have no enmity toward anyone among the people. As for the United States, we have no enmity toward the American people, the land of America, scientific institutions, social institutions, or so on. Rather, we criticize the conduct of the United States government, its tyranny, and its unjust position in the world, and unfortunately we believe its position to be perpetually deviant and extreme.
