Question 802
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. There is no power or strength except through Allah, the Most High, the Magnificent. May Allah send prayers and peace upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis. Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you, supporters of Allah, and upon those whom you take as allies. Is supporting the Imam an individual matter? For example, what was I obligated to do, as a woman, upon hearing that al-Husayn had set out to fight? What was I obligated to do, as a woman, had I been in al-Kazim’s time and learned that my Imam had been taken to prison? What was I obligated to do to support Baqir al-Sadr when they imprisoned him while I was in another country? What was I obligated to do to support al-Khuʾi while he was under house arrest? Must I await commands from the Imam? Or await commands from the religious authorities, as in al-Kazim’s (a) time-from those who forsook him? Or is it valid for me to act individually? Is it valid for me now to leave my home and dependents to join my guardian Ahmed (a)? What am I obligated to do now-convey the call? I have conveyed it to almost everyone I could. I want to support my guardian and not forsake him. How? I want to avoid the sin of forsaking the Imam. What must I do? I want a clear answer, because I see the correct answer as acting individually and taking a ticket to Iraq to join the Imam without informing my family, husband, or dependents. My dependents believe in the Sayyid, but my husband and his family do not believe. Should I leave them in the hands of my husband and his unbelieving family? There is another point: I have no acquaintances and no knowledge of the roads in Iraq. I would go there relying upon Allah, and He would arrange my affairs. Is this correct? Must I ask Sayyid Ahmed (a) himself? I fear he will say to me as al-Husayn (a) said to Nafi‘, ‘This night has covered you; take it as a mount,’ or as he (a) said to John. My guardian Ahmed-may Allah have mercy upon you-make the situation clear to me. I ask Allah for success, and ask him to grant me success. Or has the time for this question not yet come? Is it among the matters that, ‘if disclosed to you, would distress you’? My guardian, O Ahmed, O son of my purified masters, what is the matter with me that I call you and you do not answer? You had not accustomed me to turning away. Has the ordeal preoccupied you from us, or is it aversion? Far be it from you; you have never ceased being loving. My God, I desire to support Your guardian, so grant me success in doing so and in what You love and with which You are pleased. Is the idea clear? Sender: Khakzad, your servant
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. I ask Allah to grant you success and direct you aright. The support obligatory upon an accountable person is supporting Allah, Glorious is He, and it is realized by supporting His vicegerent in His earth in every age. Supporting someone other than Allah’s vicegerent in His earth is not obligatory even if he calls to the truth: ‘O you who believe, if you support Allah, He will support you and make your feet firm’ [Muhammad 47:7]. A woman is not obligated to support Allah’s vicegerent in His earth through an act that she believes may violate her dignity or that she is too weak to perform, such as fighting and some instances of enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong. In general-may Allah grant you success in every good-among the best paths presently available to a woman for supporting the truth is media through the internet, or any available means through which she can deliver the truth to people to guide and save them. Fatima al-Zahraʾ (a), Zaynab (a), Khadijah, Asiyah, and Mary (a) followed this path. In the best women of the worlds you have an excellent example, so emulate their blessed and pure conduct in the hope that Allah will have mercy upon and bless you as He had mercy upon and blessed them-Allah’s prayers be upon them. Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you.
