Question 848

My master and guardian, Qaʾim of the family of Muhammad, Sayyid Ahmed Alhasan (peace be upon him): peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. Q1: I regularly visit the infallible Imams (peace be upon them) every day, each on his day, perform the visitation prayer, and gift its reward to the infallible Imam. May I gift the reward of the visitation prayer to my master and guardian al-Hujjah ibn al-Hasan (peace be upon him) on his day, Friday? What words must I say when gifting its reward? Q2: Likewise, regarding a complete recitation of the Quran, since when I complete it I gift its reward to one of the infallible Imams: may I gift it to Imam al-Hujjah ibn al-Hasan, and what words may be said when gifting it? Q3: When reading Surat al-Tawbah I begin with ‘In the name of Allah, the One, the All-Subduing.’ If I stop halfway through the surah and later resume, do I again begin with ‘In the name of Allah, the One, the All-Subduing,’ or with ‘In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful’? O Allah, send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. Sadin Ali - Canada

Scientific Committee Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and his family, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them peace. Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. A Q1: Yes, gifting the reward of a recommended prayer to Imam al-Mahdi (peace be upon him) is permissible. No particular wording is required in the intention. A Q2: Likewise, gifting the reward of reciting the Noble Quran to Imam al-Mahdi is permissible, as with the recommended prayer. A Q3: Repeating the basmalah is not obligatory when resuming a surah after interrupting its recitation. May Allah grant you every good and righteousness.
