Question 22

I was praying and, while prostrating, found blood on the turbah from my forehead. I completed the first obligatory prayer and did not stop it. Then I washed my forehead, performed wudu and returned to perform the second obligatory prayer. Did the blood invalidate the prayer so that I must repeat it?

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

The place of prostration must be pure for the prayer to be valid. If a person knows that it is impure, even if he discovers this during the prayer, he must move away from that place and prostrate on a pure place, even if it is a part of his clothing. If he does not do so, he must repeat his prayer. However, if the impurity is blood that came out during the prayer or prostration from the worshipper himself because of a sore or wound on his forehead, face or nose, there is no problem in completing the prayer. His prayer is valid and he is not required to repeat it.
