Question 121
In Salat al-Ayat, it is stated that after al-Fatihah a surah is recited, and if it is not completed the recitation resumes from where it stopped. Must a person choose a surah containing exactly five verses? How are the verses distributed over five bowings if the surah has fewer or more than five verses?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
The person does not have to choose a surah containing five verses, and does not have to divide the surah among the bowings. A complete surah may be recited in each bowing, or a surah may be divided over two, three, or five bowings.
