Question 149

What duties does the imam bear on behalf of the follower in congregational prayer?

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

The imam bears the adhan and iqamah if none of the followers undertakes them, and bears the recitation in the first and second rak'ahs. The imam also bears the obligatory takbir for bowing, for prostration, and for rising from them, so these takbirs become recommended for the follower.
