Question 7
A person had an obligatory ghusl upon him but was ignorant of the ruling and did not know ghusl was required. He did not perform it and continued praying and fasting. What is the ruling on his prayers and fasts? Must he make them up? If so, what should he do if he does not know how many days of fasting or prayers he owes?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
Whenever ritual purity was absent, the prayer was invalid, and likewise the fast in cases where purity is a condition. If he does not know the number, he makes them up until he reaches reasonable assurance that he has fulfilled what he owed.
