Question 186

My son was killed in the recent demonstrations in Tahrir Square, and officials are now contacting me to receive his financial rights. I fear that taking the money would make me forget my grief, while relatives say I would be wasting my family's rights if I refuse. What is the Sharia ruling and your guidance?

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

As for the rights and similar payments, this is public money and not the personal money of those oppressors, so you may take it.
