Question 196
We have endowed property belonging to the blessed call. Some items belong to processions, some to the treasury, and some to work activities. Certain items deteriorate over time because they are moved from place to place, cannot be stored properly, or become obsolete, such as internet communication devices, security and communications equipment, old desktop computers and monitors, sofas, cooling devices and other used items. May we sell them, even though old or damaged items may sell cheaply, and return the proceeds to the account or purpose to which each item belongs? May completely unusable items be written off? May items that cannot be sold be given to needy brothers?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
They may be sold. If they belong to the treasury, the proceeds may be returned to the treasury or spent from their value on the needy. If they belong to a Husayni procession, their proceeds are to be spent on the procession.
