Is swearing by al-Abbas (a) and the other awliya like swearing by God, and does it carry the same expiation?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
An oath by the prophets and the successors is a binding oath, and it is not permissible for anyone to swear by them, or by their right before God, falsely. As for expiation, there is no prescribed expiation for it; seeking forgiveness is sufficient if the oath was false. It is better to slaughter a sheep and feed the poor from it so that God may ward off any harm resulting from the oath if it was false-and even if the person was truthful in his oath.
