Question 69
Is barley water lawful or forbidden for a sick person, and are there conditions for it to be lawful?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
If the barley has not fermented, its water may be drunk. If the barley has fermented, its water may not be drunk even for treatment. In other words, barley may be soaked and its water extracted by pressing or another method, but this must be before signs of fermentation appear.
