Question 26
If the seller is Muslim but buys the meat from a company in Australia, for example, must the company itself be asked about the slaughter, or is it permissible to rely on the Muslim seller's statement that the meat is halal?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
It does not matter whether the company is in Australia, France, or elsewhere so long as the slaughter is performed according to the religious requirements: the animal is directed toward the qiblah, the relevant vessels are cut by the hand of a Muslim, and the name of God is mentioned over it. If you do not personally know what happens in the slaughterhouses of the company that supplied the meat, you may rely on the Muslim seller's statement if he is informed and knows how the slaughter is carried out in that company's slaughterhouses.
