Question 99
We learned that it is permissible to kiss the hands of one's parents and small children. Is it also permissible to kiss the hand of a brother, sister or teacher—that is, the hands of people other than jurists?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
Avoid it, may God grant you success and guide your steps. It is a bad custom and often gives rise to arrogance. Parents, children, husband and wife are different because of their close physical relationship, and it is unlikely that kissing the hand of one's father, mother, child, husband or wife would cause them to become arrogant.
