What is the ruling on playing cards and backgammon? Q3: This is an answer to an earlier question that had been answered but not published: [Q1: What is the ruling on playing chess if it does not distract me from prayer or other obligations, is not played for betting or similar purposes, and is not played compulsively, but only occasionally for recreation and to spend time with a friend?

In the name of God, the Most Merciful, the Especially Merciful. Playing chess is permissible if it is not accompanied by something forbidden, such as betting or gambling. May God grant you success and guide your steps.
