What is the ruling on playing cards and backgammon? Q3: This is an answer to an earlier question that had been answered but not published: [Q1: What is the ruling on playing chess if it does not distract me from prayer or other obligations, is not played for betting or similar purposes, and is not played compulsively, but only occasionally for recreation and to spend time with a friend?

In the name of God, the Most Merciful, the Especially Merciful. Praise be to God, Lord of the worlds, and may God bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them abundant peace. May God grant you success and guide your steps. Playing chess is permissible if it is not accompanied by something forbidden, such as betting or gambling. May God grant you success and guide your steps.
