Question 69
A believing man and believing woman wanted to marry and each was satisfied with the other, but the istikhara was unfavorable, so they left the matter. It is often said that istikhara is for uncertainty. Were they mistaken in doing it, or is istikhara recommended even in such cases?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
Istikhara is for when the available paths differ, there is uncertainty, and one does not know the more suitable or correct path. But if a man wants to marry a woman, or a woman wants to marry a man, istikhara has no meaning here. The matter depends on studying the situation and whether it is suitable and right for both of them.
