Question 134
What is the ruling concerning temporary marriage? May its formula be pronounced with a mahram merely to make conversation lawful, without intending an actual marriage, when there is some special circumstance involving that person and a relationship cannot actually be formed, with the purpose only of avoiding something forbidden?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
Temporary marriage is permissible. 1. Both temporary and permanent marriage require either witnessing by two just witnesses or public announcement; either one is sufficient. 2. The minimum duration of a temporary-marriage contract is six months. A woman's conversation with men is not forbidden and does not require marriage in order to make it lawful.
