Question 136
What rights does a woman have in a temporary marriage, and what duties does she have?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
This contract does not by itself establish inheritance between the spouses. If both stipulate inheritance, or one of them stipulates it, the condition must be honored. It may be stipulated that she come at night or during the day. The husband may practice withdrawal and this does not depend on her permission. There is no divorce in temporary marriage; the marriage ends when the specified period expires. Li'an may occur, and zihar and ila' may also occur. As in permanent marriage, it is forbidden to leave her without intercourse for more than four months. She is also entitled to maintenance.
