Question 89
May a person in i'tikaf leave to explain the truth to someone seeking it, attend a debate between truth and falsehood, attend a believer's wedding, or deal with an urgent family matter? How long may he remain away?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
It is permissible to leave for necessary matters such as relieving oneself, bathing, attending a funeral, visiting the sick, accompanying a believer, and giving testimony. The person in i'tikaf assesses the importance and necessity of his affairs, provided that his absence does not last a continuous day and night, meaning 24 continuous hours.
