Question 57
When I went for Hajj I tried to maintain spiritual focus during the rites, especially tawaf, but being crowded by unrelated men caused me to lose humility and concentration. What should a woman do? I feel that my Hajj is deficient and this pains me deeply.
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
I ask God to accept your deeds and your Hajj; He is my Guardian and He takes care of the righteous. As for a woman's Hajj when there is crowding with men, avoiding being pressed against men is better for her than the Hajj itself. She should perform whatever she is able to without exposing herself to pushing and physical crowding with men. Even if she must leave some Hajj actions incomplete in order to preserve her chastity and avoid such crowding, God willing her Hajj is valid. Her standing at Arafat and whatever other rites she is able to perform without being pressed among men are sufficient.
