Question 56

What is the ruling for someone who cannot stand at Arafat during the legally prescribed time determined by the infallible Imam—for example, when the true Day of Arafah is a day later than the day observed by others, and the believers cannot go to Arafat after the other group has already performed the standing there before the legal time?

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

Obligatory acts of worship must be performed at their prescribed times to the extent possible. A person who cannot stand at Arafat on the Day of Arafah, even at night, is sufficiently covered if he stands at al-Mash'ar after dawn. If he cannot stand at either Arafat or al-Mash'ar because oppressors prevent him, then he is considered one who has been prevented and follows the rulings of the prevented pilgrim. I explained these matters in detail in Al-Shara'i, so you can refer to them and act accordingly. May God grant you success. If anything else remains unclear, you may ask.
