Question 50
Is khums made lawful for the Shia during the period of the Major Occultation?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
No one has the right to receive the portion of khums that belongs to the Imam except the Imam himself or someone whom the Imam has authorized. The Imam has not authorized anyone to receive khums on his behalf. Therefore, those who claim jurisprudential authority have no right to receive money that specifically belongs to the Imam and then dispose of it according to what they claim would please him. How would they know what pleases him?
