Question 151
When did the creation of the jinn begin? Are they from previous worlds, or were they created with the prophet Adam (a)? What is their life like? Are there prophets and messengers among them? Do they undergo tests and afflictions like human beings? Did they participate with human beings in movements and wars-that is, did they fight the prophets and guardians, or support them (a)? Mukhtar Yusuf-Basra
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. The Exalted said: ‘We certainly created the human being from dry clay, from dark, altered mud, and We created the jinn before from scorching fire’ ([293]). The jinn were therefore created before Adam (a). They are legally responsible and commanded to obey, believe in, affirm, and support the prophets of the children of Adam (a). There are no dispatched prophets among the jinn; rather, the Proof over them is the Proof from the children of Adam, and he is the Imam of humankind and jinn. Some jinn supported the prophets and vicegerents, while others fought them. The Exalted said: ‘When We directed toward you a group of jinn listening to the Quran, when they attended it they said, “Listen quietly.” When it was concluded, they returned to their people as warners. They said, “O our people, we have heard a Book sent down after Moses, confirming what came before it, which guides to the truth and to a straight path”’ ([294]). These jinn believed in Muhammad (s) after previously having believed in Moses (a). In Surat al-Jinn, the Exalted says upon the tongue of some jinn: ‘Among us are those who submit, and among us are those who deviate’ ([295]). Some jinn live upon the earth on which we live, while others live in the lower earths. Sayyid Ahmed Alhasan Vicegerent and Messenger of Imam al-Mahdi (a)
