Question 152

In the Noble Quran the heavens are mentioned in the plural, while the earth is mentioned in the singular. We know that the heavens are seven and the earths are seven. What is the secret of this, and why? Mukhtar Yusuf-Basra

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. The six remaining earths are beneath this earth, darker, and contain less light. If you know that ‘Allah has not looked upon the world of bodies since He created it,’ as the Messenger of Allah (s) said, then what of that which is beneath it? If there is something of no significance to you-this world is not worth a mosquito’s wing to Allah-and you wish to mention it while a summary is sufficient, I do not think you would proceed to detail. The Quran is a path of guidance for the human being to ascend, not descend. The heavens are the path of ascent, so the Quran mentions them in detail. The earths are the path of descent, which one is forbidden to follow, so there is no need to detail it ([296]). Sayyid Ahmed Alhasan Vicegerent and Messenger of Imam al-Mahdi (a)
