Question 329

Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. O Allah, send many prayers and abundant peace upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis. Peace be upon you, my master and guardian; may my soul be your ransom. I renew my pledge of allegiance to you with my soul, body, wealth, family, children, and everything I possess. My master, I have a question: if adultery with a married woman occurred many years ago, and they separated and repented to Allah, then after some time they met by chance and he learned that her husband had died several years ago … May you remain for us to support Imam al-Mahdi (a). I await your answer.

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis, and grant them abundant peace. If a man commits adultery with a woman, marrying her does not become forbidden to him. But if he commits adultery with a woman who has a husband-that is, a married woman-or with a woman during a revocable waiting period, she becomes forever forbidden to him. Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. Ahmed Alhasan Dhu al-Qidah, 1430 AH
