Question 427
My master, peace be upon you. Is it permissible for a person to donate his sperm to his brother’s or friend’s wife through artificial insemination because his brother or friend and his wife have been unable to have children? What is the ruling concerning the child produced through this procedure? Sender: A questioner
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, the Imams and the Mahdis. The religious ruling is that this act is impermissible: for a woman to become pregnant with the fluid of a man other than her husband. As for the ruling concerning the girl born as a result of what you did in ignorance and without knowledge of the ruling, it is the ruling of shubha. She is attributed to the owner of the fluid: he is her father, and his children are her siblings. Her mother is the woman who carried her, and the children of the woman who carried her are also her siblings. Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you. Ahmed Alhasan Dhu al-Hijjah 1430 AH
