Question 153

If the imam of congregational prayer wants to appoint a substitute while still in the prayer, how is the substitute appointed? Does the substitute continue the prayer from the point the imam reached, or begin the prayer again from the start?

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

The imam appoints the substitute by a gesture or by bringing the person forward with the hand, and the substitute completes the prayer from the point the imam reached.
