I do not know the reason for sitting between the adhan and iqamah in the obligatory prayers except the sunset prayer, nor the reason for taking one step forward and then returning backward during the adhan and iqamah of the sunset prayer. Should the step forward begin with the right foot or the left, and should the return backward be with the right foot or the left?

When Imam Ahmad al-Hasan was asked about the reason for a ruling, he gave a general answer. I transmit it to you in the hope that it will benefit you: 'Q: As is known, if a fasting person dives into the sea merely to pass the time, for example, the fast becomes invalid. Why does the fast become invalid if not even a drop of water enters the person's mouth? What is the scientific reason that invalidates the fast? A: A religious ruling is an act of worship prescribed as a test for creation, and it is not necessary that it have a reason beyond this. May God grant you success and make your steps firm.' Dr. Tawfiq al-Maghribi / 25 Sha'ban 1433 AH.
