Question 35

May one person deliver the two sermons of the Friday prayer while, for health reasons, another person leads the prayer itself?

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

This is not permissible except out of necessity. If the preacher or Friday-prayer imam is ill or in a similar condition and cannot either pray or deliver the sermon, he should leave both the sermon and the prayer to someone else. There is no need for him to deliver the sermon while another person leads the prayer, or vice versa.
