Question 36
After Friday-prayer imams were appointed, attendance became obligatory. What is the duty of people whose government jobs or employment in shops does not allow them to leave work?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
A believer should arrange his affairs so that he has an hour of break time at the prayer time, treating it as a lunch break or similar, so that he can attend. The Friday-prayer imam should take the believers' circumstances into account and should not prolong the sermon or the prayer. In general, Friday-prayer imams everywhere should avoid lengthy sermons, make things easier for the believers, and take their circumstances into consideration. May God reward them with the best reward of those who do good.
