Question 163

If a person did not formally abandon a previous watan but lived elsewhere for years and did not return to the first place to live, does the first place remain a watan?

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

A place in which a person continues to live and settle is a place where the person performs full prayers until the person leaves and turns away from it. A watan established through the stated conditions remains a watan in which the person performs full prayers unless those conditions cease to exist; it is not harmed by the fact that the person has left it and turned away from living there.
