Question 162
If a person intends to abandon a watan and move elsewhere, does the place cease to be the person's watan from the first day of that intention?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
A watan for which the stated conditions have been fulfilled remains a watan even if the person leaves it, and it does not cease to be a watan unless those stated conditions cease to exist. As for a place where a person lives and is settled but owns no property there, the person performs full prayers while there; but if the person leaves and later passes through it during a journey, the person shortens the prayer there and the place does not interrupt the journey.
