Question 57
What should a person do if the name of God or the name of one of the Infallibles has been tattooed on the body in a place where it is difficult to prevent impurity from reaching it? If removing the tattoo is difficult, must the person immediately become ritually pure from minor and major ritual impurity so as not to touch it while impure?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
Tattooing the body with these names is not permissible. If a person has done this, the tattoo must be removed if possible; otherwise, it is not permissible to make it impure. If impurity comes onto it, it is purified. The person is not required to become ritually pure from ritual impurity in order to touch the tattoo that is on the person's own body.
