Question 150
From 1993 until 1996 I worked in the administrative office of an army unit and took approximately four million dinars from people for discharge procedures and facilitating transactions. What is the ruling on this money, given that I used some of it to support my uncle's household, whose children were orphans?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
If you know the owners of this money, you must return it to them or obtain a release from liability from them. If you do not know them, give it in charity to the poor on behalf of its owners. If you already used the money to support orphans or poor people, there is no need to give that amount in charity again.
