Question 149
Around 1980 I had 120 Iraqi dinars belonging to another person. He later died in the war, and I do not know any of his relatives. The amount now has almost no value. How can I clear my liability and determine what to pay?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
If he has heirs whom you know, the money must be given to them. If he has no heirs, or you do not know them, give it in charity on his behalf to needy believers. As for the amount, assess its value at the present time: for example, determine what the amount at that time was equivalent to in another stable currency or in gold, and then determine that value today.
