Question 19

I work in a government department and receive a monthly salary from an illegitimate government that does not rule according to what God, the Exalted, has revealed. What is the religious ruling on the money I receive?

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

The tyrannical government's disposal of movable and immovable property is not legitimate, because the government of the tyrant has no legal standing. Property in Muslim lands belongs either to the Imam (a) or to the Muslims generally. Therefore, you may take the money because you are one of the Muslims who own this property.
