Question 91
Is it permissible to use a stratagem with a non-Islamic bank and take a loan from it, then repay the amount if one is able, but not repay it if one is unable?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
In dealings with banks owned by non-Muslims or by nasibis who show hostility toward the Imams or the Mahdis, it is permissible to take interest-bearing loans from them, or to deposit your money with them and take interest, because there is no riba between a believer and a non-Muslim or between a believer and a hostile nasibi. If you take a loan from such people and are unable to repay it, there is no problem—may God grant you success.
