Question 168
What is a believer's duty when encountering a person who urgently needs medical help after an accident, particularly in places where people fear legal questioning or even false accusation if they transport the injured person to a hospital? Does a person sin if fear of legal consequences makes him withhold assistance?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
Giving first aid to a person who needs immediate assistance is a collective obligation upon society. If no one comes forward to aid or transport the injured person to the hospital, then everyone who witnessed the accident and provided nothing toward assisting him sins.
