Question 79
Is it correct that a child should not be disciplined or reprimanded until completing seven years of age, and only then should teaching and discipline begin? Does that mean right and wrong should not be explained before seven, or that a child should not enter school or be taught before completing seven?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
What is correct is to avoid hitting the child, but he must be guided, alerted, and taught right from wrong. As for education, a child learns from his parents and surroundings from the moment he enters life. It is foolish to prevent him from learning particular things at a particular age as long as he is prepared and capable of learning those subjects at school.
