Question 40
There are rivers and lakes between me and the Friday prayer and no means of crossing is available. If I go by vehicle or on foot, I must travel more than 20 kilometers. Is Friday prayer obligatory upon me, or is the noon prayer sufficient in its place?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
If there are 20 kilometers between you and the Friday prayer, attendance is not obligatory upon you. Attending is nevertheless better for you if transportation and means of crossing become available. Know that reward is according to the hardship involved.
