Question 39
I suffer from a heart condition that limits my movement and exertion. May I perform the noon prayer on Friday instead, since attending the blessed Friday prayer causes me exhaustion? Is this a legally valid excuse that clears my obligation before God?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
Friday prayer is not obligatory upon a sick person whose illness prevents him from attending it. Every person knows his own condition and determines whether illness makes him unable to attend. If he is unable because of illness, he is excused, and he performs the noon prayer when it becomes clear to him that his illness prevents attendance at Friday prayer.
