Question 138

What if the person did not know the ruling and already spent the money received on behalf of the deceased for fasting or prayer?

Ahmed al-Hasan Response:

If the person was poor and in need of the money and spent it on food for the person and the person's dependents, it counts as charity on behalf of the deceased toward making up the deceased person's outstanding prayer or fasting. If the person was wealthy, the person must give the money in charity on behalf of the deceased, as explained in previous answers.
