Question 52
Does the turbah of Imam al-Husayn refer to any soil, or specifically to soil from the grave and the ha'ir? This concerns the permissibility of praying on it, especially when some people make prayer turbahs from soil said to be taken from riverbanks. What is the ruling?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
Prostrating on the turbah of Imam al-Husayn has great merit. Husayni turbah may be taken from between the holy shrine and two farsakhs in every direction, including riverbanks and other pure places. Beyond two farsakhs (11 km), it is not considered Husayni turbah. The closer the turbah is to the holy shrine, the greater its merit.
