Question 147
A woman died leaving a substantial estate. How is the estate divided if she has a husband, a mother, and five children—two daughters and three sons?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
The husband receives one-quarter and the mother receives one-sixth. The remainder is divided among the children, with each son receiving the share of two daughters. The estate may be divided into ninety-six shares: the husband receives 24 shares, the mother 16 shares, each of the three sons 14 shares, and each daughter 7 shares.
