Question 157
I am an engineer who worked for an American civil company specializing in building schools and hospitals in Iraq. I used to think well of the Americans and believed they had freed us from Saddam's rule. I maintained friendly relations with American engineers, sat with them, and regarded them as friends, but I now deeply regret this after reading your statements describing America as the Dajjal and a trial. Is repentance accepted from those who accommodated the Americans and went along with them? If they repent before the Imam's emergence, is their repentance accepted, or will the Imam uproot and kill them even if they have repented? In other words, is repentance not accepted from someone who fell into the trial of the Dajjal?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
Even the Americans themselves, if they repent and believe, God will accept their repentance and faith. Know that among the most beloved of creation to God is a young person who repents from sin. God's words are sufficient for one who repents, believes, and begins anew to act in obedience to God: 'Say: O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of God's mercy. Indeed, God forgives all sins. Indeed, He is the Forgiving, the Merciful' (Quran 39:53). Act in what pleases Him, Glorified is He: 'And surely the Hereafter is better for you than the first life' (Quran 93:4). Remember God, for in His remembrance is the cleansing and purification of hearts. The source then cites: 'And those who, when they commit an indecency or wrong themselves, remember God and seek forgiveness for their sins—and who forgives sins except God?—and do not knowingly persist in what they have done' (the source prints the reference as Al Imran: 13).
