Question 17
My master and guardian, son of the Messenger of God, I—seeking refuge in God from the ego—live in the Hijaz and have believed in your blessed call. Previously, when the time of an obligatory prayer came, especially dawn or sunset prayer, I would perform it at work because the time was tight and I could not delay it until returning home. I used to perform it in congregation with them by way of taqiyya, according to the rulings of the religious authorities. Now, after believing in your call and your right, may I pray with them individually while merely following their movements? May I perform it in their mosque when there is no alternative? And may I prostrate on the carpet if no alternative is available?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
You may perform the prayer in their mosques. If you are compelled, you may pray with them while intending an individual prayer. You can also take even something simple to prostrate upon, such as a paper tissue or a small piece of paper. May God grant you success in every good. He is my Guardian, and He takes charge of the righteous.
