Question 31
When I perform an obligatory prayer that I owe for myself, may I include a deceased person in its reward—for example, intending the noon prayer simultaneously for myself and my deceased father? Does the same apply to recommended prayers? If this is not permissible for obligatory prayers and I previously did it, must I repeat those prayers?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
You may gift the reward of an obligatory prayer that you perform to the deceased, but you may not make the deceased a co-recipient of the obligatory prayer itself or perform the obligation jointly for yourself and him.
