Question 31
When I perform an obligatory prayer that I owe for myself, may I include a deceased person in its reward-for example, intending the noon prayer simultaneously for myself and my deceased father? Does the same apply to recommended prayers? If this is not permissible for obligatory prayers and I previously did it, must I repeat those prayers?
Ahmed al-Hasan Response:
You may gift the reward of an obligatory prayer that you perform to the deceased, but you may not make the deceased a co-recipient of the obligatory prayer itself or perform the obligation jointly for yourself and him.
